Position: R&D Avionics Technician
Wage Range: $25 - $34 / Hour
Reports To: R&D Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
The Avionics Technician helps Enstrom Helicopter’s Research & Development and flight tests. You will work on installing, fixing, and improving aircraft electronics (avionics) and test equipment. This job works with engineers, flight-test teams, and manufacturing to help prototype and test aircraft. It focuses on hands-on work and solving problems, not regular maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Avionics & Aircraft Systems
- Install, fix, and adjust avionics systems on prototype and test aircraft
- Build, route, and connect wires and connectors following aerospace standards
- Help set up navigation, communication, and flight-control systems
- Assist with powering up aircraft, checking systems, and verifying they work
R&D and Flight-Test Support
- Install and maintain flight-test equipment like sensors, wiring, and data recorders
- Help with ground and flight tests by setting up, monitoring, and taking down equipment
- Troubleshoot electronics and test equipment problems during testing
- Help engineers make prototype changes and test new designs
Documentation & Compliance
- Read engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and test plans
- Write down work done, problems found, and fixes made
- Help keep accurate records for certification purposes
- Follow FAA rules, company procedures, and safety rules
General Support
- Work with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and flight-test teams
- Keep tools, test equipment, and work areas organized
- Help improve avionics and test support processes
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- FAA A&P certificate preferred (or similar avionics experience)
- 2+ years working with aircraft electronics
- Can read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience with wiring, crimping, soldering, and connectors
- Good troubleshooting skills with electrical test tools (DMM, continuity testers, etc.)
- Can work alone or as part of a team
PREFERREDE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with helicopter avionics
- Experience in R&D or flight-test work
- Know how to use data acquisition and test equipment
- Experience with prototype or experimental aircraft
- Knowledge of FAA certification (Part 27 / Part 29)
- IPC/WHMA or similar wiring certification
- Can work occasional off-shifts or flight-test schedules
PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Can work around running aircraft and test equipment
- Can climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in hangars, shops, and outdoors
- Follow all safety rules and wear required PPE
